WEST POINT —
Thursday's cross-town clash between Cullman and West Point is scheduled to resume at 10 p.m. after an hour-and-a-half lightning delay.
The Bearcats were leading the Warriors 14-0 at halftime when the crowd, coaches and players sought shelter as inclement weather approached the area. Heavy rain fell while both sides waited out the break in action.
After a scoreless first quarter, Cullman reached the end zone twice in the following frame. The first score came on a short screen pass from Tyler Glenn to Garrett Crider and the second on a connection between Glenn and Seth Donaldson.
Though it failed to score, West Point held its own in the first half. Blake Yearwood laid out for an impressive interception in the second quarter, and the Warriors forced and recovered a fumble on a punt return by the Bearcats.
West Point quarterback Bryant Farley proved to be a handful for Cullman, which racked up its fair share of penalties before the halftime break.
The game is being televised by WABM 68 as part of the station's Thursday Night Lights series.
