Class 3A Good Hope picked up a pair of wins over some pretty stiff competition last Thursday on the road, defeating 6A Decatur and 5A Cullman to give coach Rosemary Brown her 900th career victory.
Good Hope first beat Decatur in two sets — 25-20, 25-14 — before taking down the Bearcats in three — 22-25, 25-15, 15-9 — which allowed Brown to reach her milestone.
Kaylee Maddox had the hot hand from the service stripe to start the second game of the first match. After starting the game with 12 serving points, she finished the match with 10 aces, seven sets and five kills.
Rachael Shannon contributed five kills, five passes, three blocks and two aces, while Katelyn Bishop had five kills and five passes.
Kayla Scott led the way in Good Hope’s second match with 16 kills and one ace, but Maddox was right on her teammate’s toes with 13 sets, seven kills and two aces. Bishop pitched in nine kills, four passes and one block, Hannah Smith was good for 11 sets, three passes and one kill, and Shannon had five passes, three kills and one block.
Statistics were not provided for Cullman.
