CORDOVA — Hanceville rushed for 364 yards and four touchdowns with another 66 yards and one score through the air to blow by Cordova 54-13 Friday night on the road.

The win was the Bulldogs' (8-1, 6-1 in Class 3A, Region 7) seventh in a row, and, coupled with a Good Hope loss at Winfield, was enough to help them clinch their second region title in three years. Hanceville will host Glencoe in the first round of the playoffs, one week after hosting West Morgan next Friday.

Despite giving up 227 yards on the ground, the Bulldogs never allowed the Blue Devils (2-7, 1-6) to get into any sort of rhythm on offense.

After going three-and-out, Cordova's punt was blocked and recovered by Kolby Smith on the 27-yard line. One play later, Brontae Harris ran in his first score of the night. The PAT was missed, making it 6-0.

After trading possessions, the Blue Devils started in Bulldog territory and quickly scored on a 13-yard run by Charles Woods. The missed PAT left the game tied.

Harris made his only mistake of the night, fumbling the pitch, which was covered by Cordova’s Taylor Trotter. However, the Devils were unable to turn the turnover into points.

Hanceville had the ball to start the second quarter, and Caleb Hurst hit Dant’e Reese for a 31-yard touchdown pass to make it 12-6. The 2-point conversion failed as Hurst’s pass hit the ground.

The Bulldogs got on the board once more in the first half, this time on a 10-yard run by Harris. Torrey Green ran in the 2-point conversion to make it 20-6.

Both teams went three-and-out to start the second half, but Green broke through for a long 43-yard touchdown run. The PAT was no good.

The Devils’ next drive didn’t last long, as Jonathan Shumate was picked off by Harris, who ran it back 53 yards for the pick-six to make it 33-6.

Harris scored again on Hanceville’s next possession, this time a 52-yard run. The PAT was blocked.

The Blue Devils marched down the field on their next drive, resulting in Cade Adkins powering his way through the defense for a 7-yard touchdown run to make it 39-13.

The Bulldogs answered however, as B.J. Smalls scored from seven yards out.

With 3:09 left in the game, Hanceville scored on another pick-six, this time with Reese returning the interception 54 yards to make the final score 54-13.

Harris ran for 219 yards and three touchdowns to go along with the pick-six. For Cordova, Woods had 149 rushing yards and a score.
