CULLMAN —
With only two weeks remaining in region play — make that just one for Addison — the playoff picture is beginning to become a little bit clearer for football teams all around the state.
Through seven games, Addison is the only school in The Times’ coverage area to already clinch a postseason berth, but Cullman, Hanceville, Vinemont and Fairview all have the ability to join in the fun with wins on Friday.
A victory is all that’s needed for those first three teams, but the Aggies require a bit more help. They not only must beat Sardis on the road but need Oneonta to take down St. Clair County to help ensure the Purple and Gold’s fate by the end of Week 8.
Good Hope still has an outside shot of reaching the playoffs, but that will be squashed the second Hanceville or Vinemont win another game.
West Point, Holly Pond and Cold Springs were eliminated with respective losses to Hartselle, Geraldine and Lamar County last week. All three squads could technically still tie for fourth place, but head-to-head tiebreakers would work against them in each instance.
The opportunity to host a first-round playoff game is still an option for Addison, Cullman, Hanceville and Vinemont.
Addison has the easiest route, though, needing only a win against undefeated Falkville at home this Friday to make that a reality.
See Thursday's print edition of The Times for full region standings for all nine local football teams.
