ONEONTA — Andrew Christenberry paced the Cullman High boys basketball team with 15 points, leading the Bearcats to a 64-55 win over seventh-ranked (3A) Weaver Tuesday night in a Christmas tournament at Oneonta High.
The Bearcats advance to play Alexandria in the semifinals today.
Cullman never trailed in its quarterfinal matchup. The Bearcats (10-5) took a 15-11 lead in the first quarter and carried a 33-27 cushion into halftime.
Cullman outscored Weaver 31-22 in the second half.
Grayson Smith followed Christenberry with 13 points, while Casey Brown scored 12 and Jaret Hulse tossed in 10. Connor Adams added eight points for the Bearcats.
• Mortimer Jordan 58, Holly Pond 41: The Broncos suffered their first loss at the Charlotte Cummings Christmas Classic at West Point, dropping a semifinal game to Mortimer Jordan.
Holly Pond (7-10) trailed just 30-26 at halftime but was outscored 28-15 the rest of the way.
Thomas Hays scored 14 points to pace Holly Pond, which plays in the third-play game today at 1:15 p.m. Drew Adams finished with 11 points and Jacob Walker added eight.
• West Point 66, Clements 53: The Warriors stayed alive in the consolation bracket of the Charlotte Cummings Christmas Classic by beating Clements.
West Point trailed 14-8 after one period and 27-23 at halftime before rallying with 43 second-half points to get the comeback win.
Mark Laney led all scorers with 20 points for the Warriors (4-13), while Zach Baswell tossed in 13 and Zach Douglas had 10. Cory Hall and Tyler Vandergrift added nine points each.
West Point plays in the fifth-place game today at noon.
• Vinemont 57, Glencoe 39: The Eagles defeated Glencoe in a consolation-bracket game in the Oneonta Holiday Classic.
Vinemont (6-9) was led by Reno Jones, who scored 21 points, including 11 in the thrd quarter. Cody Weaver tossed in nine, Brock Meherg finished with eight and J.D. Bagley added seven.
• Good Hope 66, Danville 33: The Raiders picked up their first win at the Big Blue Classic after dropping their first two games.
Good Hope (10-6) hosts J.B. Pennington Tuesday.
• East Limestone 61, Fairview 49: The Aggies lost to East Limestone in the fifth-place game of the Big Blue Classic at Brewer.
Varsity Girls
• Addison 45, St. Clair County 32: The Bulldogs finished the round-robin Curry Christmas tournament unbeaten, winning all four games.
Alex Scott led Addison (11-3) with 16 points and Kaitlyn Parker followed with nine. Kaydi Langley tossed in eight, while Sadie Beam scored seven and Kali Lake added five.
Addison doesn’t play again until Jan. 8 when the Bulldogs host Class 2A, Area 12 foe Cold Springs.
• Priceville 51, Cullman 45: The Bearcats were eliminated from the River City Classic in Decatur by Priceville.
Morgan Smith scored 15 points to lead Cullman, which lost its tournament opener Monday against Fairfield. Tate Hall tossed in 10 points and Jorden Quick added eight.
The Bearcats (4-12) trailed 12-7 after one period but used a 13-9 run in the second to pull within one point of the Bulldogs at halftime.
Cullman hosts Vinemont Monday.
• Fairview 58, Oneonta 45 (OT): The Aggies took fifth place in the Hayden Christmas Tournament with an overtime victory over Oneonta.
With the teams tied at 45 at the end of regulation, Fairview outscored the Redskins 13-0 in the extra period.
Annie Holcomb scored a game-high 19 points to pace Fairview, which won two of its three games at the tournament. Alysha Smith scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Jazz Foust had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Ashton Ryan scored seven points, Kayla Schnittker tossed in six and Kacie Mangum added five.
The Aggies (8-7) host Douglas in a Class 4A, Area 13 game Tuesday.
• Gardendale 50, West Point 38: The Warriors dropped a game at the round-robin Curry tournament against Gardendale.
West Point carried a 23-19 lead into halftime but was outscored 31-15 the rest of the way.
Sarah Perry scored 12 points to lead West Point (8-7), while Katilin Chappell had eight and Susan Harbison added six.
The Warriors travel to Fayette County on Jan. 8.
• Good Hope 33, Arab 27: The Raiders knocked off Arab to claim third place in a Christmas tournament at Hayden.
Nina Mills scored nine points to pace Good Hope, which led 4-3 after one quarter, 23-11 at halftime and 25-19 heading into the fourth quarter. Elizabeth Hardin and Ashley Stanley added eight points each.
The Raiders (10-6) host J.B. Pennington in a Class 3A, Area 12 game Tuesday.
