VINEMONT — Holly Pond High’s boys basketball team was originally scheduled to open the season with a road game against Vinemont.
Six weeks later, the Broncos probably didn’t mind waiting for the game.
Holly Pond (6-9) defeated Vinemont (5-8) 63-58 Tuesday night, snapping a three-game losing streak in the process.
The Broncos trailed 15-10 after one period and 25-19 at halftime, but surged ahead 42-37 after three quarters.
Thomas Hays paced Holly Pond with a game-high 23 points, while Drew Adams tossed in 14 and Bryant Sparks added 12.
The Broncos face Clements in the West Point Christmas Classic at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 28.
For Vinemont, Brock Meherg finished with 16 points, Cody Weaver had 13 and J.D. Bagley added 10.
The Eagles play Guntersville at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 28 in the Oneonta tournament.
