PREP ROUNDUP: Warriors split baseball DH with Vikings

JASPER — Wesley Waters struck out seven and allowed only three hits in a complete-game effort to propel the West Point baseball team to a 7-4 season-opening road win against Walker on Monday.

The Wallace State signee also helped his cause at the plate, finishing 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI to lead a strong offense outing.

Warriors Ryder Jones and Bryant Farley joined Waters in the 3-for-4 club. Jones slugged two doubles for two RBIs and a run.

Wesley Smith’s pair of hits proved to be rather productive, resulting in a team-high three RBIs.  

Tate Duckett, Dalton Looney, Cameron Brock, Jordan McKenzie and Will Wrenn all contributed one hit apiece for West Point. Brock and Wreen also accounted for one RBI each.



‰ Walker 13, West Point 3: The nightcap wasn’t nearly as kind to the Warriors (1-1), ending in a blowout victory for the Vikings.

Brock, McKenzie and Wrenn had West Point’s only three hits. Looney was charged with the loss on the mound.

Cullman’s varsity boys snagged their first win of the season with a 4-0 shutout against visiting Arab.

Miguel Pascal, Aaron Andrews, Jesse Burroughs and Ben Huser were responsible for the Bearcats’ four goals, while Connor Milligan was credited with the shutout.

The Black and Gold’s junior varsity boys blanked the Knights as well in an 8-0 final.

Seth Andrews went off for a hat trick, while Matthew Bell and Ben Walker chipped in two goals apiece. Erick Ayala rounded out Cullman’s scoring spree.

The Bearcats varsity girls came up just short to Arab, falling 1-0.
