HAYDEN CHRISTMAS CLASSIC: Raiders win 7th straight, advance to title game

HAYDEN — Christmas came early for the Good Hope girls basketball team, and it’s staying a little bit later than usual.

After an uncharacteristic 4-9 start to the 2012-13 campaign, the Raiders have now reeled off seven wins in a row, taking down Cordova 55-29 Thursday in the first round of the Hayden Christmas Classic and advancing to the championship with a much-closer 64-58 victory versus Homewood the following day.

Sharpshooter Kayla Tillman was Good Hope’s top scorer in both contests, letting loose for 23 in the first game and 18 in the second. Three other players cracked double figures against Homewood — Cara Goodwin and Katelyn Bishop, 12 points each, and Darcie Wilson, 12.

The 11-9 Raiders were set to take on host Hayden for their third straight holiday tournament title at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday night. The championship matchup was still in progress at the time of publication.

Check back for results of the title tilt.
