PREP FOOTBALL: Warriors embarrass Lawrence Co. in 43-0 shutout

MOULTON — The West Point Warriors scored early and often, spoiling Lawrence County's homecoming 43-0 at Red Devil Stadium Friday night.

The Red Devils’ offense never got any momentum, finishing with 25 yards of total offense.

West Point methodically drove the field with their first possession as Kristian Chappell capped off the 70-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run.

After trading fumbles, the Warriors added to their early lead with a Tristan Dubberly touchdown.

Tate Duckett and Jordan McKenzie closed the half with touchdown runs of their own, leaving Lawrence County stunned and trailing 28-0 headed into the locker room.

Taking the second half kickoff, Red Devil running back Gabe Vernon gave a glimpse of hope as he gained 24 yards on his first three carries, but Lawrence County’s drive stalled with the help of two fumbled snaps and a pair of costly penalties.

West Point was forced to punt on its first drive but got the offense back on track on the second drive of the half when Duckett raced 46 yards to pay dirt. A two-point conversion out of the swinging gate play put the Warriors on top 36-0.

Lawrence County went three-and-out on four of their five second-half possessions, and West Point drove a dagger into the Red Devils with an 81-yard touchdown pass from Bryant Farley to McKenzie, sealing the deal.

McKenzie and Farley hooked up on the only two completions for West Point but gained 92 yards on the pair of passes.

Duckett led the Warriors potent rushing attack with 92 yards on 12 carries.

West Point carried the ball 51 times as a team for 294 yards.

Lawrence County travels to Cullman next week. The Warriors will host Hartselle.
