St. Bernard hit the road on Thursday afternoon and came away with an impressive 4-1 victory over the Hawks.
The Saints led 1-0 at the half despite more than 20 shots on goal but made a few big adjustments that paid off handsomely when they returned to the soccer pitch.
Three minutes into the second half and Aimee Cortes made it 2-0 on a beautiful goal right past Danville’s goalkeeper.
Less than a minute later, Cortes struck big gold once more to extend the lead to 3-0 for the visitors.
Abbie Mescher tacked on another goal on an assist from Meg Borths before the Hawks scored one late in garbage time which brought the final score to 4-1.
“The girls are ready to go back to sub-state and this contest was vital to that goal,” coach Shannon Mescher said. “We have an amazing defense, but I was pleased we spent the most part of the game attacking on offense.”
% St. Bernard 4, Danville 2: The Saints trailed early but tallied the final three goals of the game to secure a much-needed win.
Alex Anderson kicked the go-ahead goal and tacked on a key insurance shot just moments later to help St. Bernard triumph.
Nick Schwears and David Schartung each found the net also.
% Cullman 11, East Limestone 0: The Bearcats earned their sixth win of the season in grand fashion with a overpowering performance against their area-foe Indians on Thursday.
Hayden Short walloped two doubles, while Kaitlyn Brannon added two hits as well. Taiya Ponder had a hit and two RBIs. Mckensi Burks tallied one hit and crossed home four times.
Claire Jenkins picked up the win on the mound.
% St. Bernard 11, Southeastern 3: The Saints scored four in the first inning and added four more in the fourth to pull away from the Eagles at home on Thursday.

Both Cullman squads grabbed team victories over Russellville on Thursday afternoon.
Olivia Sharpton, Anna Trevarthen, Kate Hood, Makenna Smith, Kacie Donaldson, Lilli Watson, Gentry Bussman and Emily Graves all won single matches for the Lady Bearcats.
Clint Watson, Baylor Adams, Matthew Davis and Luke Bowden won singles bouts, while Jacob Davis and Check Freeman were victorious on the doubles’ circuit.
