Despite a strong showing from ace Montana Holcombe, Holly Pond dropped its first game of the season on Tuesday.
“It was just an evenly matched game,” coach Steve Miller said. “It was a good for us.”
Holcombe pitched all seven innings, striking out 10 batters and surrendering two runs. She went 1 for 3 from the plate and drove in the Broncos' only run.
Taylor Rowell collected a hit and later scored.
Holly Pond is now 1-1.
% Grissom 12, Cullman 11: The Bearcats came up one run short Monday on the road, dropping an offensive shootout to the Tigers.
Zac Crocker and Keegan Thompson provided most of the firepower, as both picked up two singles and drove in two runs.
Crocker and Samuel Murphree each crossed the plate twice.
Lance Cleveland, Wesley Walker, Cole Collins and Kristian Robinson all notched one base hit in Cullman’s loss.
Troy Forrest started the game for the Bearcats. The senior went three innings, giving up five hits and eight runs. Only two were earned.

The Tigers outslugged Cullman (4-6) once again to hand the Bearcats their fifth-straight defeat.
Pitchers Joseph Gable and Lance Cleveland were touched up for a combined 14 earned runs in four innings of work.
Cristian Martinez laced a two-run double in the fourth inning for Cullman, while Thompson added two hits and an RBI. Five other Bearcats also collected one hit.
