HUNTSVILLE — Cold Springs quickly shed its first-round regional curse on Friday evening at the Von Braun Center, opening the Class 2A North Super Regional with a straight-set victory against Cherokee.

Winners of four straight area tournament titles, the No. 6 Eagles snapped its three-match skid in the first round of regional play by besting the Indians 25-21, 25-16, 25-14.

Cold Springs, which improved to 37-10, will take on No. 4 Lexington at noon Saturday for an assured spot at the Elite 8 state tournament. Lexington (44-12) needed four sets to dispatch No. 9 Ohatchee in opening-round action.
