PREP FOOTBALL: Hanceville cruises past winless Danville 41-7

DANVILLE — Hanceville pounded out 400 yards of total offense to easily sweep past winless Danville 41-7 Friday night on the road.

The Bulldogs have now reeled off six consecutive wins, improving to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in Class 3A, Region 7.

Brontae Harris piled up 189 rushing yards on 18 carries, while B.J. Smalls handled the ball 11 times for 116 yards. Both running backs scored touchdowns — Smalls an 11-yard dash and Harris, a 40-yarder.

Hanceville took control on the opening drive, marching 71 yards in six plays, all on the ground, capped by a 22-yard run by Blake Miller.

Late in the first quarter, the Bulldogs muffed a punt and recovered it on their own 47. They then drove 53 yards to open the second quarter with another score, this time on a 5-yard run by Carlos Chacon. Smalls tacked on the third touchdown for the Bulldogs in the first half, but the extra-point attempt was blocked, leaving the score 20-0.

The third quarter saw Hanceville quickly take charge again, intercepting a Danville pass and scoring on a four-play, 10-yard drive. Harris provided the next score with his 40-yard run to push the score to 34-0 at the end of the third quarter.

Miller added his second touchdown of the evening in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard plunge, pushing the Bulldogs to a 41-0 lead. Danville scored late to make the final 41-7.

Hanceville had 15 first downs on the night and ran for 375 yards, while adding another 26 through the air for 401 yards of total offense.

Danville finished the night with 75 rushing yards and 104 passing yards.

The Bulldogs will head to Cordova next Friday with hopes of doing their part to maintain a three-way tie atop the region with Hamilton and Good Hope, which are both also 5-1 in region play.
