With the bases loaded and the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning of Thursday’s home opener against Cordova, Hayden Short did what seniors are supposed to do — she came through in the clutch for Cullman.
Short slugged a sacrifice fly to push in the winning run and cap off a thrilling 4-3 triumph over the Blue Devils, already the Lady Bearcats second of the young season versus their Class 3A counterpart.
Sierra Easterwood sizzled with the stick, batting 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Hannah Morton made her mark with two hits and an RBI in three at-bats, while Kaitlyn Brannon touted a pair of runs.
Claire Jenkins claimed the win in the pitcher’s circle for Cullman, which will take a 4-3 record into next Thursday’s home game against Hayden.

% Vinemont 13, Brindlee Mountain 6: The Eagles shook off a couple of losses to secure their first victory of the season on Thursday evening.
Lance Stanley picked up the win after striking out nine batters and scattering three hits over five innings of work.
Riley Foust collected three hits, Kyle Dyer was 2 for 3 with two doubles and Garrett Boland was good for a knock.
Vinemont (1-2) will head to Mars Hill Bible on Saturday.
