PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Kessler, Aggies squeak by Dora for OT victory

DORA — Greg Boatright had a very specific reason for adding Dora to Fairview's schedule for the 2012-13 season.

The Aggie coach wanted his boys to have a shot at the team that eliminated them — “whooped us pretty good” is how Boatright put it — at the sub-regional level last year.

Well, when the Purple and Gold received that shot Saturday on the road, they took it and ran with it, all the way to a thrilling 55-54 overtime victory.

Down by one with nearly 15 seconds remaining in the extra period, Peter Kessler drove to the basket, was fouled and sank both free throws to put Fairview on top for good.

Andy Hendrix led the Aggies' extremely balanced scoring attack with 13 points, followed by Blake Parker with 11. Luke Bailey and Elijah Garrison had 10 points apiece.

Kessler's pair of heroic shots from the charity stripe increased his final point total to six.

Despite watching his squad improve to 9-4, Boatright still saw at least one aspect that still needs some touching up in practice.

“We're making some fundamental errors that we're going to have to clean up,” the coach said. “The boys know that. I've said it many times, but I haven't quite seen it done yet.”

Fairview will take on West Morgan on Wednesday in opening-round action of the West Point Classic.
