CULLMAN — Mother Nature made track and field coach Trent Dean look like a genius at the outset of the Cullman Classic on Monday.

After being forced to postpone the well-attended event a little more than a week ago due to sleet and wintry weather, the Bearcats' main man sat back and soaked in the spring sun as 21 teams and nearly 750 student-athletes ascended on Oliver Woodard Stadium for an evening full of competition.

St. Bernard's 4x800-meter girls relay team kicked off the meet with a victory, as did Cullman's foursome on the boys side. Jaden Edge, Morgan Matz, Ayleana Mami and Logan Ayers represented the Saints, while Devan Hall, Stephen McNeal, Matthew Huddleston and Mark Gomez picked up the win for the Bearcats.

The Cullman Classic, expected to continue until approximately 11 p.m., was still in progress at presstime. Check back later for a story and results.
