ALBERTVILLE — Holly Pond headed to the Albertville Civitans Christmas Classic with every intention of improving on last year’s showing at the holiday event.

The Broncos appeared to be well on their way to doing just that Thursday, using four double-digit scorers to jet past Hokes Bluff in a 63-46 first-round contest.

The Green and White, now 12-3 after six consecutive victories, will play Albertville Friday at 5:30 p.m. The host Aggies advanced by defeating Douglas 64-36 on Thursday night.

Colby Adams shined yet again for the second-ranked squad in Class 3A with a team-high 21 points. Cody Jones and Austin Smith weren’t far back with 15 and 14 points, respectively, while Gunter Morris capped off Holly Pond’s players in double figures with 11 points.

The Broncos were faced with the tall task of defending Hokes Bluff center Isaac Haas. The Green and White kept the 7-foot-2 Purdue commit from doing too much damage, however, limiting him to 14 points.
