PREP BASKETBALL: Saints smoke Whitesburg Christian for 2nd time in less than a week

CULLMAN — If it were up to St. Bernard's basketball teams, Whitesburg Christian would be on the schedule at least once a week.

Six days after sweeping both Warrior squads on the road, the Saints once again pulled double duty, this time on their home floor, blasting Whitesburg Christian 40-12 in Monday's varsity girls game and 72-56 in the varsity boys matchup.

Michayla Brown, Aymee Chauvin and Katherine Gamble led a balanced scoring attack for St. Bernard's girls with 13, 12 and 10 points, respectively. The team's remaining points came from Zana Wilson, three, and Alli Messick, two.

Sean Moriarty picked up right where he left off the last time the Saints' boys faced the Warriors, recording a massive double-double with 27 points and 20 rebounds. His offensive effort was bested only by teammate JaDavian Roland, who piled on 32 points to go with six assists.

St. Bernard's other contributors were John Gurtowski with six points, Jacob Grey with four and Dean Smith with three.

The Saints' girls improved to 4-3 (1-1 in Class 1A, Area 14), while the boys' current three-game win streak has them back at .500 with a 4-4 (0-2) mark.

Both teams will host Class 2A West End Thursday night.
