If Good Hope wanted to end the season with a perfect 6-0 record in area play, Vinemont was going to make them work for it on Thursday.
Raider ace Cara Goodwin went toe-to-toe with Eagle No. 1 Raven Christensen, receiving just enough offense to allow Class 3A’s No. 3 squad to come up with a hard-fought 2-0 victory.
Goodwin struck out 12 and allowed three hits, while Christensen fanned four and gave up seven hits.
Senior Kayla Tillman singled and scored on an error in the first inning, and Darby Randolph knocked in Savannah Fendley the following frame to round out the Raiders’ runs.
Kacy Thomas had a pair of hits for Good Hope, while Tillman, Goodwin, Maegan Sterling, Fendley and Randolph all had one.
Katie Fuller, Katie Speer and Christensen provided Vinemont’s three hits.
The Raiders, who clinched home-field advantage for the upcoming area tournament on Wednesday, are now 29-6.
