NORTHWEST REGIONAL TOURNAMENT (Class 1A): Free throws seal deal for Falkville in 58-48 OT win over No. 8 Tharptown

HANCEVILLE — Tuesday's Class 1A regional semifinal bout between Falkville and No. 8 Tharptown offered up just about everything a fantastic contest usually does.

Big-time shots? Check.

Clutch defensive stops? No problem.

Screaming coaches? A must.

However, it was something far more elementary that allowed Falkville to ease past the Wildcats in a wild 58-48 overtime affair — free throws.

The Blue Devils sank 7 of 8 from the charity stripe in the fourth frame to close a three-point deficit and made another 7 of 11 in OT — where they outscored the Wildcats 11-1 — to pick up a regional victory in their first appearance at Wallace State since the '11-12 season.

Bailey Anders (16 points), Autumn Eddy (13) and Makenzie Smith (12) were the main culprits for Falkville on offense. Anders and Smith combined for eight steals, some of those coming in key moments late in the W.

Falkville (20-9) will play in the championship title Friday at 3:40 p.m. against Covenant Christian.

For Tharptown (21-7), Kamri Sears contributed 17 points and seven rebounds.

% Covenant Christian 51, Lynn 35: The Eagles are No. 1 in 1A for a reason, and that reason comes in the form of senior guard Anna Claire Nobilt.

Nobilt shredded the Bears inside and out, scoring a game-high 27 points in the Eagles' no-nonsense regional semifinal win on Tuesday.

For good measure, she also tossed in three rebounds, three steals and two assists to go along with a perfect 9-for-9 clip from the free-throw line.

Bailey Hill contributed 11 points and seven boards as well for Covenant Christian (29-1).

Lynn senior Reagan Tuttle did all she could in her final game in Black and Red, but even her 23-point, seven-rebound performance couldn't get the Bears (26-3)over the hump.

Varsity Boys

% Belgreen 66, Sumiton Christian 48: The Bulldogs' bite definitely matched their bark in the second half of the Tuesday's regional semifinal bout against the Eagles.
