PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Broncos snag Senior Night sweep of Raiders

HOLLY POND — The Lady Broncos will roll into Friday’s rematch with Madison Academy on quite the hot streak.

Meg Gambrill put up 17 points, and Natasha Holcombe (15 points) and Rachel Finley (12) had a superb Senior Night, as Class 3A No. 4 Holly Pond knocked down 14 3-pointers to dispatch Good Hope 70-47 Thursday at home.

The win was the Green and White’s fourth in a row since a Jan. 17th 58-28 loss to the second-ranked Mustangs, who they’ll get another crack at Friday at home.

Holly Pond (23-3) hit its first five treys as part of a 25-13 first quarter. The Broncos led 38-19 and 59-31 at the other pair of quarter breaks.

Junior varsity call-up Taylor Tankersley added eight points, all in the fourth quarter. Melissa Clingman was a perfect 4 of 4 at the free-throw line to account for the entirety of her offensive output.

Kaitlyn Stephens, Kristen Sparks and Abby Gambrill all pitched in to the win with three points apiece. Taylor Rowell tacked on two.

Celest Whisenant was the driving force for Good Hope (17-9) with 18 points. Katelyn Bishop helped out with 11.

Other Lady Raider scorers were Kaylee Maddox, five points; Kayla Scott and Sadie Abbott, both four; Kacy Thomas, three; and Celina Dillard, two.

Good Hope will host Priceville for its rescheduled Senior Night on Saturday afternoon.

% Fairview 66, West Point 58: The Lady Aggies didn’t need any last-second magic to take care of the Warriors Thursday.

The Purple and Gold, who were up 14-9, 27-23 and 48-38 at each quarter break, received 21 points from Taylor Ann Yeager, 13 from Sarah Harper and 12 from JV call-up Jada Golden. Yeager was a near-perfect 9 of 10 at the charity stripe.

Lizzie Garrison provided eight points, while Dalys Mullican racked up seven points and eight rebounds. Last week’s hero, senior Kennedy Trimble, came up with three points. Hunter Cox had two.

Mallory Walker was West Point’s high scorer with 21 points. Sisters Jamie and Jeri Beasley both notched 13 points. Jamie, a senior, rounded out a double-double with 10 rebounds. Tess Hembree (six points) and Daeshia Smith (five) capped off the Warriors contributors.

Fairview will host Hanceville Friday. West Point will stay at home for another county contest Monday versus Cold Springs.
