PREP ROUNDUP: Whisenant, Thomas lead Raiders to win over Vinemont

VINEMONT — Good Hope had little trouble collecting its seventh win of the season, as Celeste Whisenant and Kacy Thomas — 14 and 12 points each, respectively — gave the Raiders all the production they needed for a 52-12 victory over Vinemont on Tuesday night.

Coach Michael Oldacre’s squad took quarter leads of 13-2, 26-9 and 45-12 en route to the runaway triumph.

Other Raider contributors included Sierra Kinser and Katelyn Bishop, seven points; and Alex Flanigan and Kayla Scott, six.

Casey Westmoreland collected seven points for Vinemont in the losing effort, while teammates Katie Speer and Hannah Adamson were good for four and one apiece.

The Raiders will host Hanceville on Friday night in an crucial area matchup, while Vinemont will travel to Class 1A Falkville on Thursday.

% Cold Springs 78, Oakman 13: Haley Freeman and Caitlyn Hall continued their dominant ways in a runaway area victory over the Wildcats on Tuesday.

Freeman — 22 points, seven rebounds and seven assists — and Hall — 18 points and 14 boards — were key cogs in the Eagle offense, while Chloe Harbison tacked on 13 of her own.

Bailey West also reached double digits with 11 points and McKinnley Davis was just two shy of a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds. Keegan Johnson and Emme Willoughby each made a three in the win.

% Decatur Heritage 49, St. Bernard 18: The Saints fell to 5-6 on the year and 1-3 in area play following a lopsided home loss to the Eagles on Tuesday night.

Zoie Wilson led St. Bernard with seven points, while Katherine Gamble was next in line with four. Zana Wilson, Abbie Mescher and Michayla Brown all scored two points. Anna Meyers netted one to round out the scoring.

The Saints will play Southeastern at home on Friday.

% Holly Pond 56, Hanceville 25: Rachel Finley led all scorers with 15 points, as the Broncos galloped over the Bulldogs on Monday night to pick up their ninth win of the season.

Natasha Holcombe picked up 12 points to help her teammate out, while Abby Gambrill connected on a couple of 3-pointers to finish her night with six. Taylor Rowell, Ruth Horton and Meg Gambrill all contributed five points as well.

Lexi Cooper and Mariah Twitty both collected a team-high six points for Hanceville. Taylor Hollingsworth added five.

Hanceville will play host to Fairview on Thursday, while Holly Pond will welcome in Brindlee Mountain on Friday.

Varsity Boys

% Good Hope 63, Vinemont 61:
The Raiders squeaked out a close victory over their county rival on Tuesday night.

Andy Cofer came up big for Good Hope with 20 points, while Alex Cofer added a double-double — 18 points and 10 boards — as well as a clutch 3-pointer to put his team up late in the game.

Jonathan Grigsby — nine points — and Eli Marty — seven — also played big minutes for coach Mike Jones in the win.

"It was a complete team effort," Jones said. "I'm proud of my guys for gritting out on the road."

Junior Varsity Girls

% Cold Springs 40, Oakman 7:
The Eagles improved to 8-0 on the season with a ho-hum win over the Wildcats on Tuesday.

Rilee White scored 11 points to lead the way, while Kaleigh Merring and Hannah Watson each had 10. Camryn Crider was good for five on the evening. Amber Norris and Destiny Cambell both scored two as well.
