PREP ROUNDUP: Elam, Lady Warriors light up scoreboard at local tourney; Cullman's Norris, Hill land in top 3 at large invite

GOOD HOPE — West Point was wonderful with the big stick Saturday at the Good Hope Round Robin Tournament, torching the hosts for a 12-3 win and topping Prattville Christian 5-3.

Karra Elam brandished the Lady Warriors' hottest bat, piling on a home run, two doubles, a single and a hefty six RBIs. Tess Hembree sent one over the fence as well to highlight a two-hit, four-RBI production. Mallory Walker went off for a double, a single and three RBIs.

Daranna Campbell (RBI), Daeshia Smith (RBI) and Kayla Sullins all had three hits. Karlie Beck carved up two singles and an RBI, Makenzie Baswell swatted a double, and Jeri and Jamie Beasley each had one hit.

Jeri Beasley was the winning pitcher in both games. She earned the first decision after allowing one run on one hit, three walks and two strikeouts in relief. Beasley fanned three and gave up three runs, eight hits and one walk in Game 2.

Kyle Norris and Garrison Hill proved they could run — and vault — with the big dogs at the highly competitive Mountain Brook Invitational over the weekend, helping Cullman's boys finish 13th out of 32 teams that scored at least one point.

Norris was a close second in the 2-mile run, while Garrison Hill was the third-best pole vaulter.

The Bearcats had three tracksters qualify for a hurdles final. Savanna Canter and Tayla Sparg were fifth and eighth, respectively, in the ladies 100-meter race. L.J. Patterson was seventh in the boys 300-meter event.
