PREP ROUNDUP: Cold Springs’ girls track and field comes up with team crown at own invitational

COLD SPRINGS — Dakota Lott scored a lot of points for the home team at Friday’s Cold Springs Invitational. So did the rest of the Lady Eagles, causing a close finish with Falkville for the team title.

With Lott’s first-place spots in the 100- (18.18) and 300-meter (54.66) hurdles, as well as a win from Payton Strawbridge in the pole vault (6’6”), Cold Springs was ultimately able to come out on top with 110.5 points to the Blue Devils’ 102.

Rachel Haynes (100-meter hurdles), Christian Wilson (high jump) and Alexis Smith (pole vault) all aided the victory with runner-up results in their respective events. Katie Huffstutler (300-meter hurdles and discus) and Lott (triple jump) recorded third-place efforts, as did Kinley Campbell, Haynes, Desmarie Moore and Zoe Strawbridge in the 4x100-meter relay and Abi Burrow, Emily Campbell, Huffstutler and Ashleigh White in the 4x800-meter relay.

St. Bernard snagged third as a team. The Lady Saints’ fearsome foursome of Ayleana Mami, Leahrose Mami, Logan Ayers and Ivy Edge set a school record with a time of 10:42 en route to first in the 4x800-meter relay. A. Mami left the field in her rearview mirror in the 3,200-meter run (12:37), while her sister secured second in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs. Ayers (800- and 1,600-meter runs), Anna Faulk (pole vault) and Anna Myers (shot put) were St. Bernard’s third-place athletes.

Holly Pond edged Vinemont 54-50 in the fight for fifth. The Lady Broncos were led by second-place postings from Mykenzie Heaton (long jump) and Clingman (shot put). Heaton was third in the 200-meter dash. So was Clingman in the high jump and Haley Higginbotham in the 100-meter hurdles.

Vinemont’s Tori Wisner wielded a win in the discus (93’5”). Taylor Randall was second in the javelin. Karlie Cupp, Caragan O’Neil, Casey Westmoreland and Anna Barnett were runners-up in the 4x100-meter relay.

Alex Flanigan was as fleet-footed as ever for Good Hope, sprinting to first in the 200-yard dash (29.14) and second in the 100-yard dash. Heather Middleton was second in the 300-meter hurdles. Wheelchair racer Elena Guevara completed the 100 meter in 43.46 and 400 meter in 2:47.
