PREP VOLLEYBALL: Addison senior inks scholarship with Wallace St.
By Michael A. CummingsADDISON — For the last couple years, Kaydi Langley knew exactly where she wanted to go to college.
After Thursday, Langley’s wish is now reality.
Langley, a senior middle hitter on Addison High’s state-championship-winning volleyball team, signed a scholarship Thursday to continue her career next season at Wallace State.
When she gets there, Langley will also continue working with Lions coach Randy Daniel, who coached Langley the past two years on the Smith Lake Juniors club volleyball team.
It’s a relationship that made Langley’s choice of colleges easy.
“I’m really excited — I’ve been ready for this for a while,” she said. “I’ve been playing for (Daniel) the last two years and I’ve wanted to play for him in college since then.”
Langley was one of two seniors on an Addison team that went 69-3 on its way to the Class 2A championship. Setter Kali Lake, the other senior, is expected to sign a scholarship in the coming weeks.
In the state championship match against Lexington, Langley finished with 12 kills, two blocks and two aces. According to Bulldogs coach Pam Wilkins, Langley’s excellence in all three statistical categories was invaluable to the team this past season.
“She was a leader in hitting, blocking and serving, and she was a captain, too,” said Wilkins, who also led Addison to 1A state championships in 2003, 2004 and 2005. “I think at Wallace she’ll emerge as a leader, and I expect her to make an impact quick.”
For her career, Langley finished with 854 kills 326 aces and 280 blocks. But the most important thing, according to Langley, was getting another state championship at the end of her senior season.
“We had a really great team. We were all close, we were all supportive of each other,” she said. “To top it all off with a state championship is just amazing.”

AUBURN FOOTBALL: Washington may be playing himself into job as kick returner
The road to success has been long for Demond Washington.
Just about as long as his big return last weekend against Georgia.
With his Auburn Tigers trailing 24-17 in the fourth quarter this past Saturday, Washington took a Bulldogs kickoff at his own 1-yard line, weaved in and out of traffic and sped all the way to the end zone for a 99-yard touchdown. -
CULLMAN FOOTBALL: Versatile Adams fills multiple roles in Cats’ offense
Connor Adams has worn several labels over the past 15 months.
Starting running back, injured reserve, H-back, Wildcat quarterback, fill-in running back — those all fit the bill.
But here’s another one Adams can claim, and it’s something a little different:

SURVIVE AND ADVANCE
Warren McGriff looked exhausted … and maybe a little beaten and battered, too.
His counterpart, Connor Adams, didn’t look much better. The Cullman High seniors were mentally and physically drained.
And for good reason. They had just lived through the intense roller-coaster ride that was Cullman-Fairfield, part deux — a rematch of last year’s second-round matchup.
Cullman won the game, beating Fairfield 22-19 with a pair of late defensive stops in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs Friday night. - More Local Sports Headlines
