CULLMAN —
A record-breaking performance by Bennett Glasscock, as well as three individual event wins apiece by siblings Michelle and Eric Pilcher, highlighted the Cullman Swim Team’s dual meet against Madison Tuesday at the Cullman Wellness and Aquatic Center.
The Catfish ultimately couldn’t keep up with the Dolphins’ depth, though, resulting in their second loss of the summer season. The CST also fell to Madison earlier this month.
That team defeat wasn’t able to overshadow the three Catfish who blew their competition out of the water with a trio of victories. Not the four swimmers who each won two events, either.
Glasscock, representing the 15- to 18-year-old boys age group, has turned in fast times all season long, and Tuesday was no different. The 16-year-old St. Bernard student broke team records in all three of his races — 50-yard freestyle (22.94), backstroke (25.77) and butterfly (24.61).
Michelle Pilcher, who will be swimming for Berry University in Rome, Ga., this fall, took the top spot in the 15- to 18-year-old girls 100-yard individual medley, 50-yard breaststroke and 100-yard freestyle, while her brother, Eric, won the 13- to 14-year-old boys 50-yard breaststroke and butterfly, as well as 100-yard freestyle.
Sawyer Trimble and Noah Price both notched a pair of triumphs for the boys, while Sarah Peel and Adora Ralph pulled off double trouble in the 11- to 12-year-old girls division.
Trimble throttled to wins in the 25-yard breaststroke and 50-yard freestyle. The 8-and-under swimmer also claimed second in the 100-yard IM.
Price took first in the 100-yard IM and freestyle, in addition to a second-place result in the 50-yard freestyle.
Peel was victorious in the 100-yard IM and 50-yard breaststroke, and Ralph won the 50-yard freestyle and butterfly. Peel also swam to second in the 100-yard freestyle, while Ralph was third in the 100-yard freestyle.
The Cullman Swim Team will travel to Arab today for a tri-meet with River City and Arab before returning home to face Albertville July 3.
