St. Bernard took on Paint Rock Valley on Friday night and for one half of play, it seemed as though the Saints would be part of another fight to pick up their first win of the early season.
However, thanks in part to a big third quarter, St. Bernard was able to ease past their foe to earn what turned out to be an easy 64-46 victory.
Tied at 29 heading into the third quarter, the Saints ran off a 24-4 run over the next eight minutes to grab a 20-point lead.
From there, it was simply a matter of running out the clock.
“We still have a lot of work to do, but they’re willing to do it,” head coach Greg Boatright said. “That’s a good thing.”
John Gurtowski led all scorers with 23 points, while Evan Aldridge added 13 of his own. Gavin Harris tossed in nine, Jacob Grey, eight, and Dean Smith, seven, in the win. Matt Herring and Graham Sanders were each good for a bucket as well for the Saints.
St. Bernard will travel to Athens Bible next Thursday.
