PREP BASKETBALL: Cullman uses late push to beat Clay-Chalkville
Staff ReportsCULLMAN — Morgan Smith didn’t deliver a freshman performance in her second varsity basketball game.
Smith paced the Cullman High girls basketball team with 12 points and seven rebounds, leading the Bearcats to a 55-53 come-from-behind win over Clay-Chalkville (1-1) Tuesday night.
Cullman (1-1) trailed most of the game, but used a strong 11-for-13 performance from the free-throw line to rally back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth period.
Morgan Pitts scored nine points for Cullman, while Tate Hall added seven points. Savannah Nichols, Jordan Quick and Kaci Forrest scored six points each.
Forrest led the Bearcats in rebounds with 10, while Quick finished with nine assists.
Cullman hosts Plainview Thursday at 4 p.m. as part of the Bearcats Tip-off Tournament. Clay-Chalkville plays Hartselle at 5:30 p.m., while Athens plays Hayden in the tournament’s final game at 7 p.m.

CULLMAN FOOTBALL: Top-ranked Bearcats return to Russellville looking for revenge — one year later
Behold the power of three.
Heading into its Class 5A quarterfinal tonight at Russellville, Cullman High’s football team has already avenged two of its three losses from the 2008 season.
In week six, the Bearcats beat Erwin 42-16 to avenge a 25-20 loss from last season. And in week eight, Cullman downed Mountain Brook 28-13 to get revenge for last year’s 49-34 defeat.
Guess who the third target is. -
