PREP ROUNDUP: Goodwin tosses ninth no-no of the year as Raiders wallop Falkville 13-0

FALKVILLE — Cara Goodwin continued an exemplary stretch of pitching on Friday, hurling her ninth no-hitter of the season en route to Good Hope’s easy 13-0 five-inning road win over Falkville.

Goodwin struckout eight batters, collected two hits at the plate and drove in three runs to help the Raiders earn their 13th victory in a row. They have an astonishing 11 shutouts over that span.

“If they don’t score, they can’t beat us,” coach Wayne Harris said. “I just hope we can keep those zeros coming for another six weeks.”

It was the second near perfect game for Goodwin in as many starts. She issued a two-out walk in the seventh inning against Cold Springs on Tuesday before hitting two Falkville batters during Friday’s start to break up another bid.

No. 4 Good Hope broke the game wide open in the second inning, scoring 10 runs in the frame to put the Blue Devils away early.

Darby Randolph led all players with three hits. She also drove in four runs.  Alannah Henke was good for two hits and an RBI as well.

The Raiders are now 21-5 on the season and will open up the Cullman County Softball Tournament on Monday with a game against West Point.
