Following a lengthy layoff for spring break, Cullman’s soccer programs returned to the field Monday night, piling on a pair of wins by its varsity and junior varsity boys versus Walker.
The big-boy Bearcats rode goals from Nick Harbin and Cody McCluskey to a 2-1 victory, while the JV squad capitalized on scores from Jack Baker, Osvaldo Bautista, Jonathan Reyes and Seth Andrews to corral a 4-1 final.
Andrews was rather helpful with three assists. The other was credited to Eric Ayala.
Cullman’s varsity girls narrowly lost to Albertville 2-1 at home. Savannah Rakestraw booted in the Black and Gold’s lone goal.
The Bearcats’ junior varsity/middle school team fell 4-1. Ninfa Moreno was Cullman’s only scorer.
Both Black and Gold teams are scheduled to face section-rival Athens today. Games will be moved to Friday pending predicted rainy conditions.
Cullman’s boys finished tied for eighth out of a 20-team field with a total score of 326 at the Bill Easterling Memorial, which was hosted by Bob Jones.
Sylas Elliott and Lee Mattox led the way with respective rounds of 76 and 77, followed by Colby Sandlin (85), Conner Stevens (88) and Garrett Crider (99).
