COLD SPRINGS — It was business as usual for the Cold Springs’ varsity girls on Thursday night, as they continued their area dominance with a 64-17 win over Oakman in the Class 2A, Area 14 Tournament.

“We were able to rest and heal up tonight,” coach Tammy West said. “We played a lot of players and hopefully that’ll help us out down the road.”

The Lady Eagles started the contest on a 33-0 run, riding  the terrific shooting and offensive rebounding of its starters and reserves to take a 39-9 lead into halftime.

“Our size gave us a lot of easy baskets around the goal,” West added. “We played a good game.”

Cold Springs’ points weren’t just limited to the paint, though, as it connected on nine 3-pointers, including three from junior varsity call-up Emme Willoughby.

The Eagles also played tremendous defense throughout the game, using a full-court press early to open up a insurmountable lead against the Wildcats.

Chloe Harbison led her team with 12 points to go along with five steals, while Willoughby was good for nine.

Other Eagle contributors included Caitlyn Hall, eight points; Haley Freeman, Karlee Perdue and Hayden West, seven apiece; McKinnley Davis, six and nine rebounds; Keegan Johnson, five; and Bailey West, three.

The win advances Cold Springs to the area finals, where the Lady Eagles are seeking their eighth straight crown.

Awaiting in the championship tilt is Sulligent.

The Blue Devils were able to get past Lamar County 59-41 earlier in the evening.

Despite a 2-0 record against second-seeded Sulligent, West said the opponent will present a challenge come gameday.

“They’ve got a good team,” she said. “They’re athletic and strong. They also rebound very well as a team.”

The Area 14 title game will be Monday at 5:30 p.m.
