Celest Whisenant and Kaylee Maddox combined for 29 points as Good Hope’s junior varsity girls did just enough, easing past Fairview by a 39-23 final on Saturday in the first round of the Cullman County Basketball Tournament .
The Raiders set the tone early in the first half, securing an 11-point lead midway through the second quarter due to Whisenant’s play in the paint.
The Aggies didn't wilt, however, as Fairview mounted a small comeback, shaving their deficit to just four points early in the third quarter after a 3-pointer from Lizzie Mae Garrison.
Unfortunately for Garrison and the Aggies, it was all Good Hope from there.
Maddox took over in the fourth, scoring eight of her 16 points in the frame and allowing her team to advance to the second round.
Whisenant netted 13 points, while Sydney Phares tossed in four. Caitlin Johnson added three, Celina Dillard, two, and Savannah Mork, one.
The Lady Raiders will take on two-seed Holly Pond next Friday at 5 p.m. for a chance to move on to the championship game.
Dalys Mullican was the top scorer for the Aggies, coming home with seven points.
Other Fairview contributors were Ashley Latham, six points; Garrison and Aladie Howse, three; and Harley Jo Gibbs and Kayla Aleman, two apiece.
