Lincoln, Glen win pair at Hanceville

HANCEVILLE — Lincoln High baseball coach Mark Glen got the homecoming he was looking for Saturday, with the Golden Bears sweeping a doubleheader at Hanceville.

Glen is a native of Holly Pond, but this trip to Cullman County wasn’t a social call. And Lincoln’s play on the field proved it.

The Golden Bears beat Hanceville (2-10) 15-4 in the first game, and followed with a dominating 24-11 win in game two.

Nathan Melton recorded the loss in the first game. He gave up 18 hits, nine walks and struck out seven.

Lincoln’s Anthony Butler recorded the win. He held Hanceville to only one hit while striking out 12.

Jake Badders led Lincoln at the plate, going 3-for-3. Todd Garrison had three singles and two RBIs, while Nathan Williams had two doubles, a single and three RBIs.

Melton had Hanceville’s only hit, but the Bulldogs still managed to rally in the bottom of the fifth when a Lincoln relief pitcher walked the first five batters.

Things didn’t get much better for Hanceville in game two.

Badders recorded the win in the second game, striking out 10 while holding Hanceville to five hits.

Lincoln scattered 23 hits on Hanceville pitching while drawing three walks.

Hanceville continued to struggle at the plate through the first four innings, with Marcus Kay recording the Bulldogs’ only hit.

But once Badders left the game, the Bulldogs were finally able to get on the scoreboard.

Tyler Bland drove in a pair of runs with a double, and Mason Woods pushed another run across the plate with an RBI single. Cody Chambers, Zach Thomas, Zach Armstrong and Burkart also scored.

Hanceville took one more shot in the bottom of the sixth scoring three runs.

Garrison led the Golden Bears at the plate, going 4-for-5 with four singles. Butler went 3-for-3, while Badders went 4-for-5 with three single and a double.

Thomas recorded the loss for Hanceville. He struck out eight in six innings of work.
