Holly Pond stays hot at 3-point line, downs Lions

Broncos nail nine treys, including 6 in first half

GUNTERSVILLE — The 3-point shot has been a major weapon for the Holly Pond High girls basketball team lately.

And that didn’t change Friday night.

Seventh-ranked Holly Pond drained nine 3-pointers, including six during the first half, on its way to an easy 71-28 victory at Class 3A, Area 13 rival Brindlee Mountain.

The Broncos (14-3) was also hot from beyond the 3-point arc on Tuesday, when they beat Cullman County rival Fairview 71-51 behind a season-high 15 treys.

Against Brindlee Mountain, Holly Pond jumped out to a 29-5 advantage after one quarter thanks to four 3-pointers. The Broncos led 46-8 at the half and 58-13 heading into the fourth period.

Haley Bagwell tossed in a game-high 20 points to lead Holly Pond, which won its seventh straight game. Kelsey Hawkins scored 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, while Haley Terry finished with 11 points.

Alisha Keller had nine points, while Maeleigha Basenburg, Courtney Deese and Ashley Hardin added five apiece.

The Broncos are off until Saturday, Dec. 26, when they face Cleveland in the first round of the Hayden Christmas Tournament.
