Prep football roundup: Aggies drop third straight

Staff Reports

STEVENSON — Fairview High’s football team lost its fourth straight Friday, suffering a 42-14 loss at North Jackson.

The loss gives Fairview the fourth playoff seed in Class 4A, Region 7, while the Chiefs locked up the top spot.

Junior quarterback Trett Hardman led Fairview’s offense, completing 27 of 47 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns. He threw one interception.

Hardman was also the Aggies’ leading rusher, carrying the ball 15 times for 128 yards and one touchdown.

North Jackson only had a 14-0 lead at the end of the second quarter. But after halftime, the Chiefs’ offense poured it on.

The Cheifs rolled up 340 yards of total offense.

Hardman threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Alex Hipp. He also found Eric King in the end zone on a 17-yard pass.

King was Fairview’s leading receiver, catching six passes for 76 yards.

•Pennington 40, Danville 18: Defense and special teams were the key to Pennington’s win over Danville Thursday. The Tigers clinched a playoff spot in Class 3A, Region 7 with the victory.

Devyn Murphree got things rolling with an electrifying 63-yard punt return that put the Tigers on the board early in the first quarter.

Murphree added a 1-yard touchdown with 9:20 left in the first half after a Wesley Stephens interception set the Tigers up at the Danville 5-yard line.

Another turnover forced by the Tigers — this time a fumble recovery by Reno Brandon — set Pennington up at midfield and the Tigers scored on another Murphree run from eight yards out.

Pennington took a 28-0 lead into halftime after Derik VanMaanen scored on a 15-yard pass completion from Lee Morton. The score was set up by an interception by Dustin Sivley.

• Holly Pond 23, Brindlee Mountain 14: The Broncos won their second game of the season Thursday, beating a winless Brindlee Mountain team.

Alex Johnson scored one touchdown for Holly Pond, running 56 yards for a score. Chris Cahoon also found the end zone.
