Dillard finishes 10th at River Hills

Staff Reports

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Jason Dillard described it as a “rookie mistake.”

And in the end, it caused the Cullman-based professional to fall seven spots on the leaderboard.

After recording a double-bogey on the 16th hole at River Hills Country Club in Charlotte, N.C., Dillard followed with a bogey on No. 17 — causing him to fall seven spots on the leaderboard.

Dillard finished the final round of the River Hills Open with a 74, ending the tournament in a tie for 10th place.

“It was just a rookie mistake,” Dillard said. “I saw the leaderboard and noticed I was in a tie for third place. So that’s when I tried to make something happen.

“But then I had a couple of bad holes, and that’s when I fell all the way to 10th place.”

Now that the River Hills Open has concluded, Dillard is returning to Cullman — where he plans to begin preparations for next month’s Alabama Open.

“Pretty much, I’m just going to practice at Terri Pines,” said Dillard, who has won the last two Alabama Opens. “There’s a lot more pressure on me this year. I’m pretty sure everyone will be gunning for me.”
