Published March 18, 2008 11:45 pm - Wallace State splits doubleheader with Itawamba College Staff Reports HANCEVILLE — The Wallace State-Hanceville baseball team split a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon against Itawamba (Miss.) Community College, taking the opener 7-3 before dropping the second game 6-0.
The Lions are now 21-3 overall, and remain 12-0 in Alabama Community College Conference play. “It was a good chance for everyone to get to play, but we didn’t get the job done in the second game,” said Lions coach Randy Putman. “We didn’t play with enough intensity today.” Zac Ivey was the winning pitcher in the first game. He pitched two innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out one batter. Zak Taylor went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, two singles and an RBI. Tyler Hannah added a double, RBI and a run scored, while Hayes Orton added a single, triple and two runs. Rich Porohnavi had a hit and four RBIs. In the second game, Adam Brown took the loss, giving up two runs on three hits over three innings. He struck out four. “It’s good to have a loss like this sometimes,” Putman added. “If you keep winning, you sometimes become complacent, and today brought the guys back down to earth. We have to be mentally ready, stay focused and get ready for our next games.” The Lions’ next face Jefferson State Community College Thursday at 1 p.m. in Birmingham. Wallace will host Columbia State next Tuesday at 2 p.m.
