Kilgo remains on NARCOG payroll as consultant

After spending the first part of the work week out of town, Kenneth Kilgo returned to work Thursday as a part-time consultant for the North-central Regional Council of Governments, despite conflicting reports floating around.

Since the Jan. 23 meeting at Holly Pond, questions’ have arose concerning the minutes of the meeting, and whether or not Kilgo is still on the agency’s payroll. Following the 6-2 vote to hire Kilgo as interim executive director, one copy of minutes states NARCOG board chairman Stanley Yarbrough asked a motion to be made to eliminate item number five on the agenda, because, “it takes care of itself.” Baileyton Mayor Johnny Dyar then made the motion to do so. However, in a copy of the minutes provided by former interim executive director Lona Johns, it states Cullman County Commission Chairman Kenneth Walker made the motion to eliminate the temporary part-time position, instead of item number five.

Holly Pond Mayor Herman Nail, Dyar, along with Lawrence County Commissioner Mose Jones, met Thursday with the NARCOG employee who recorded the minutes, and confirmed there were conflicts.

Kilgo, who was hired for the part-time position at a rate of $32.50 per hour in March, said he plans to continue his work at NARCOG until told otherwise.

“I showed up at the office this morning, went to eat lunch with Herman, and Johnny, and went on to Lawrence County and did my thing with NARCOG,” Kilgo said Thursday afternoon. “I plan to continue that until someone tells me something different.”
