Work to fix a minor problem involving the dam at Sportsman Lake Park is now complete, according to Cullman County Commission Chairman Kenneth Walker.
In November, members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers held a briefing with local officials to discuss and outline the maintenance plan for the project. Work began shortly after and was completed at the end of last week. The main problem stemmed from water seeping through the dam at the back of the lake, causing a concern among some that it was weakening. It was first anticipated the lake would have to be completely drained before any work could be done, however in the end, the only work required to be done was on the spillway, which was done in-house.
