Gov. Bentley coming to Cullman for REHAU groundbreaking

CULLMAN — Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley will be in Cullman on Monday for an industrial groundbreaking at REHAU that is expected to create approximately 200 new jobs.

A proposed expansion at the automotive manufacturer was announced in June 2012, and is now ready to officially begin. The project is related to a new contract to produce bumper assemblies for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and M-Class vehicle lines.

“We’re really excited to finally be getting the groundbreaking in and we’ve been working toward it for a while,” Cullman Economic Development Assistant Director Dale Greer said. “It’s a very large project.”

The company plans to build a new, approximately 110,000-square-foot structure to make room for the expanded manufacturing needs. REHAU recently purchased a 74-acre lot from the Cullman Industrial Development board, which had been certified as an Advantage Site by Economic Development Partnership of Alabama (EDPA), meaning it meets all state and federal requirements for industrial use.

“That was one of the fastest turnarounds ever to sell an Advantage Site,” Greer said. “That helps because you’re able to get everything done to know there aren’t any issues. It really streamlined the process.”

The official announcement is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, January 14 at the company’s 2424 Industrial Drive location in Cullman.

Bentley is expected to be joined by several local, state and company officials.
