A tractor trailer accident took the life of a Huntsville man Sunday afternoon on the Interstate just north of Cullman County.
Alabama state troopers said the single-vehicle wreck occurred at 2:20 p.m. Sunday. The accident killed 40-year-old Gregory Paul Kimbrell of Huntsville, who was driving a 2007 Freightliner south on Interstate 65 just north of the Cullman County line.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident. There were no passengers.
The accident occurred approximately one mile south of Falkville and two miles north of Cullman County. The wreck shut down southbound traffic for a time; troopers with the Highway Patrol’s Decatur post said guard rail repairs were ongoing Monday afternoon.
Morgan County coroner Jeff Chun pronounced Kimbrell dead at the scene shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday. There were no other injuries or fatalities. Traffic was also stopped on U.S. Highway 31 at Lacon for a while following the accident.
Chun said Monday that Kimbrell had died from trauma to his head and torso.
Troopers reported Kimbrell was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The cause of the wreck is still under investigation.
