Rep. Jeremy Oden asks for PSC appointment

MONTGOMERY — Republican state Rep. Jeremy Oden of Vinemont has asked Gov. Robert Bentley to appoint him to fill an unexpired term on the state Public Service Commission.

The term of Republican Commissioner Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh opened up Tuesday when she beat Democratic incumbent Lucy Baxley for president of the PSC. Cavanaugh was sworn into office Wednesday, leaving the final two years of her term open.

Oden has been a legislator since 1998 and was close friends with Bentley during his eight years in the House, including sharing an office suite and staying at the same Montgomery hotel. He said Wednesday he considered running for the PSC in 2010, but sought re-election instead.

The governor’s spokesman, Jeremy King, said an announcement of an appointment is expected soon.

Oden was unable to be reached by The Times at the time of this post.
