CULLMAN — Good morning, readers, this is what's happening in your county today:


Road closure reminder: The City of Cullman Sewer Department will have Mary Jane Drive NW and Rosemont Ave. NW closed between Rose St. NW and Maple Drive NW for sewer line reconstruction. This road will be open to local traffic only. The City of Cullman Water Department apologizes for this inconvenience, but it is necessary to perform this maintenance.

Workers to fix streets: The Cullman City Street Department will have an asphalt patch crew on 5th St. SE and 4th Ave. SE. Drivers should be cautious of workers when driving in these areas.


Today: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph.

Tonight: Areas of fog after 1 a.m. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 61. Calm wind.

Construction at CCED: Currently, construction is taking place in the parking lot in front of the Cullman City Economic Development Agency building until about Sept. 27. There will be restricted access into the parking lot until construction is complete. Please bear with us. Problems have been discovered underground related to the old water treatment plant that must be repaired.

Flu shot clinics upcoming: The Cullman County Health Department will hold flu shot clinics from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 27, in the back parking lot at the health department; and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 30, at the Wallace State Community College’s Wellness Center. Shots will be $5; Medicare is free-must bring Medicare card.

Have you made your reservations? A benefit dinner will be held at Lowcountry’s restaurant in Mountain Brook at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14. Cost  is $75/person; proceeds go to St. Bernard Prep School. Reservations required; school office at 256-739-6682.

Get your football raffle tickets! The Pilot Club of Cullman is now selling chances to win two tickets to the Auburn vs. Ole Miss game, which will be Oct. 5, at the Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn. The chances are 1 for $5 or 5 for $20. Chances sold by Pilot Club members. Winner to be announced Friday, Sept. 27 (one winner gets both tickets).
