— Carl and Hester Williams have attended the Cullman County fair together for 50 years during the event’s 59-year run.

The Jones Chapel natives, who attended Senior Fun Day Wednesday, have been married 45 years. Carl, 72, and Hester, 69, celebrated the day with a ride on the merry-go-round.

“We enjoy everything about it and have been coming here for years,” Carl said. When asked if he would encourage other senior citizens to take part in the senior day he replied, “We sure would.”

“The rides, exhibits, singing at the theater, all of it is enjoyable,” Hester said. “It’s a fun day.”

Lions Club member Dewayne Wilson assisted with the fair and said the vendors received a lot of attention during the senior day.

“We had many popular, area vendors here and we’ve seen a lot of people go through and visit the vendors,” Wilson said. “We had two rides open the Ferris wheel and the merry-go-round.”

Cullman city police officer Jack Springer was working security for the senior day, and has been present many days and said they have not had any incidents that he is aware of.

“We’ve had fair crowds present and we will have the fair here until the 23rd,” Springer said. “Everything has gone smooth so far.”
