The Cullman Times
The Postal food drive on Saturday, May 11 gave over 6,000 pounds of food to Cullman Caring For Kids that will be donated to 500 families each month.
CCFC Director Javon Daniel expressed his gratitude for the postal workers taking part in the drive and also to all those who took the time to donate food.
“It is just phenomenal the way this community comes together, they see a need and take care of that need,” Daniel said. “The postal workers, bless their hearts, are already delivering mail and trying to stay safe on the roads and they go above and beyond to do this. We are so appreciative of them.”
Daniel said they received about the same amount of food as last year, between 6-7,000 pounds. Daniel said this year’s event provided several items that are hard to keep on the shelves.
“We got a lot of dry goods, Mac and cheese, cereal, dried beans, rice, noodles, items like that,” Daniel said. “It seemed like more than we have gotten in the past. I think the [Cullman Times] article in the paper was instrumental in that. It was very, very successful and we received what we really needed at this time. We are so thankful, God has blessed us tremendously. He takes care of the needs we have. Through us, God helps those who need help.”
Co-Director Nancy Bryant said food bank donations have grown exponentially over the years.
“I want to thank the community for coming together and making such a big impact for us, they are why we can give food out,” Bryant said. “We can help those that are hungry in this community because people care. I remember about eight years ago- our shelves were bare, The Cullman Times came and did an article on the food bank and the doors did not stop swinging open after that with people bringing donations. It was a blessing to see the people take part in it.”
The Cullman Caring For Kids food bank accepts food or financial donations at any time and they can be written off on the donor’s taxes.
