Shogun coming to Cullman; Logan’s opens in October

CULLMAN — Foodies, take note — two new major restaurant chains are coming to Cullman, and both should be open within the next few months.

Shogun Japanese steakhouse is set to open within six weeks in the King Edward Shopping Center, while the previously announced Logan’s Steakhouse on Alabama Highway 157 has set an October opening date.

The Shogun will be located in the now defunct 4,800-square-feet Van’s Sporting Goods space, and Drinkard Development representative Jason Grimmett said the opening will hopefully fill a niche on the south side of the city — plus bring some much-needed foot traffic to one of Cullman’s original shopping centers.

“The owners bring considerable experience in the business and we are excited to bring a unique experience for everyone to enjoy. We will no longer have to travel to Birmingham or Huntsville to enjoy the experience that Shogun will offer, which is similar to the popular Stix and Kobe Japanese Steak House,” Grimmett aid. “This has been in the works and planning stages for about a year. The customers will be in for a treat and a surprise when they see the decor and set up, complete with a fish pond and bridges. The addition of Shogun is just another step in our plans to reestablish King Edward Plaza as a prominent shopping center in Cullman.”

The restaurant will feature 10 hibachi grill tables and create at least 25 jobs.

On the north side of Cullman, the new Logan’s Roadhouse has announced it will be open for business by the end of October, and possibly sooner. Site work is winding down, and much of the signage has already been installed just off Interstate 65.

“Our team searches the country for the best restaurant sites, and we’re excited about opening our first location in the Cullman, Ala., area,” Tom Vogel, president and chief executive officer of Logan’s Roadhouse, said in a statement. “We see a lot of opportunity in this neighborhood. We plan to be a valuable part of the community by bringing to Cullman a place where guests will feel comfortable and enjoy high-quality steaks in a kickin’, upbeat atmosphere, all at a great price.”

Logan’s is well-known around the southeast for its menu of steaks, and ribs; plus an expansive beer selection.

The new, 6,500 square-foot restaurant is expected to create approximately 130 new jobs.

Cullman Economic Development Agency retail recruiter Susie Hood Ashley said the new additions should be a good fit for the area, plus a catalyst for continued economic recovery.

“It’s the first of many new and exciting changes Cullman will be experiencing, and we’re very excited to have these national retailers come to town,” she said. “We don’t anticipate this taking away from existing local restaurants, but increasing the traffic through Cullman. Folks are absolutely eating out more, and that’s a positive sign for the economy.”
