HANCEVILLE — Officers from police departments both local and outside the state are getting their first taste of basic S.W.A.T. training this week as part of a four-day exercise hosted by the Hanceville police department. Springfield, Mo. veteran officer Phil Yarnell, pictured in red, led trainees through live fire exercises Tuesday afternoon at the Hanceville firing range. Hanceville police chief Bob Long said there’s a definite excitement when a scenario-based training exercise gets underway, but the lessons officers learn from the drills are dead serious. “It’s better to get “killed” in a training exercise than in real life,” he explained. The training continues today with officers staging a mock raid on a vacant, sequestered Hanceville house.
