18-wheeler causes delays on Highway 31

CULLMAN — An 18-wheeler loaded with roughly 75,000 pounds of paper caused delays along U.S. Highway 31 near Sportsman’s Lake park Thursday afternoon.

According to Craig Green, assistant police chief with the Cullman Police Department, a bar below the back door caused the truck to bottom out.

Two wreckers were called to the scene to help remove it from the roadway.

Motorists on Interstate 65 South were also delayed Thursday afternoon following a wreck involving a truck. Traffic was delayed and slowed for more than hour up until about 5:15 p.m.
