Cullman residents die in Walker Co. traffic accident

Joppa man succumbs to injuries from Dec. 09 accident

CULLMAN — Two Cullman residents were killed Monday afternoon when their vehicle collided with another on Highway 69 in rural Walker county. A Jasper man was also killed in the accident.

According to Walker County coroner J.C. Poe, Sherri Elaine Johnson, 33, of Cullman died in an ambulance on the way to a helicopter landing zone near the accident scene for emergency air transport. Terry Livingston, 43, of Cullman was transported to the University of Alabama in Birmingham medical center, where he died in surgery.

Both Johnson and Livingston were traveling in a Ford Ranger. The vehicle collided with a small Nissan pickup truck driven by Bobby Garrett, 73, of Jasper. Garrett died at the scene.

The accident occurred in Walker county near the Cullman County line at approximately 2:20 p.m. According to Poe, Livingston and Johnson were on the way to Jasper to visit a relative who was hospitalized there.

Attempts to contact the Birmingham state trooper outpost for further details were unsuccessful.

In an unrelated incident, a Joppa man, David Randall Cason, succumbed to injuries he sustained in an accident that occurred late last year.

Cason, 49, died Monday night from injuries suffered in an accident last month in Joppa. On Dec. 22, Cason was traveling in a 1990 Chevrolet Corsica that struck a 2003 Mitsubishi driven by Stacey Pearson, 25, of Joppa, on County Road 1809 one mile south of Joppa.

“The two cars collided head-on,” Cullman County Coroner Gary Murphree said after the accident.

Cason’s wife, Belinda, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident from injuries sustained during the crash. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Cason was med-flighted from the scene to Huntsville Hospital. He was eventually transferred to UAB, where he died.

Cason’s death marks the fourth fatality in Cullman County in 2010.
