CULLMAN —
A Cullman woman was injured in a three-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in downtown after she reportedly became unconscious due to a medical condition and ran a red light on U.S. Highway 278.
Janice Gulledge, 77, of Cullman, suffered a medical emergency while driving her Chrysler east on Highway 278 at approximately 2:15 p.m. Thursday, according to Cullman police reports. Her vehicle reportedly ran a red light at the Fourth Avenue SE intersection, beside The Times office, and was struck by a Chevy Silverado driven by Vinemont resident Alan Carter.
Once her car was hit, police say it traveled approximately half a block before striking a third vehicle on the north side of Fourth Avenue.
Gulledge was extricated from her car by police and transported by ambulance to Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was the only person injured in the crash.
Traffic was stalled at the intersection for approximately 20 minutes while police worked the scene.
